FAQ

Children can start ballet classes at our Mississauga studio at age 3-4 in our Dance Intro class. Dancers must turn 3 within the calendar year.
-
Start by reaching out to us. We can help! If you wish to navigate our classes yourself, our website is sorted by dance style, day of the week, or age. We start with Dance Intro for ages 3-4. Beginning at age 5, we offer classes in ballet, jazz, tap, acro, and hip hop. Musical theatre is available for children age 6 and up. Intensive (competitive) classes are available for kids age 6 and older. New intensive students require a placement audition and an interview.

We do not charge a registration fee. If you are a new CDA client, we will send you a welcome letter with helpful information to prepare you for your first class, and will charge your first month’s tuition to secure your spot. You will begin our regular monthly billing cycle on your second month of dance, to be charged on the first day of the month.
-
We do not offer trial classes, but we can easily drop classes on a monthly basis if it is not the right fit. Trying at least one month of dance classes allows new dancers to get a good grasp of the class structure and helps them become acquainted with their teacher, classmates, and technique. And this, of course builds confidence and helps dancers develop a love for dance. If you wish to drop a class effective the next calendar month, please give us 2 weeks’ written notice via email.

Core classes are technique and recital performance classes for all ages. The only commitment is your weekly classes. We also request you attend photo day, 2 extra Saturday rehearsals and the dress rehearsals before the shows. These dates are already on our important dates on our app. Intensive classes are for students who have demonstrated a very strong work ethic or have completed an assessment with our directors. These classes will prepare dancers for 3 dance competitions and expect a strong commitment towards punctuality, attendance, and frequent practicing at home.

Dress codes vary by dance style. For example, Dance Intro requires a leotard and tights, while Hip Hop requires comfortable clothing and clean indoor sneakers. Once registered, parents can view the exact requirements for their child's specific class on the Can Dance Academy app.
-
Costumes range from $100-150, as each class will receive a costume that is unique to their group. We charge $90 down payment in November and the full amount plus tax is charged in January, minus the down payment. Costumes are yours to keep, not rentals.
-
We charge on a monthly basis. Some months can have 3 classes and some 5, depending on the calendar. Regardless of this, it is a monthly payment plan. The entire season is split into 9 equal payments charged at the beginning of each month.
-
We generally close for major statutory holidays (like Thanksgiving or Family Day). Registered families can view our full calendar of closure dates on the Can Dance Academy app. Dancers can take makeup classes by joining an equivalent class on another day of the week. We will communicate which classes are appropriate for makeup classes before the holiday takes place.

At CDA we encourage dancer independence as much as possible. Our teachers are warm and encouraging, to help support dancers feeling confident and comfortable in the classroom. Our space does not have a designated parent viewing area. We can, however, be flexible when needed. If young children need a little extra TLC from moms or dads to help them transition into their first few dance classes, teachers can work with parents to facilitate this. During the year, we offer frequent Share Weeks, when parents and families are invited into the classroom to observe a portion of their child’s class.
-
Our recital is an exciting event that allows for dancers to showcase their dance routines. Recital takes place at Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga, and students will get the opportunity to perform on stage in costume - just like a professional dancer! Our season runs from September to May, and our programs are specifically designed for dancers to partake in recital. If you are not able to participate in our recital, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can prepare the class to perform without your dancer.
-
We do offer adult classes! This season, we have an adult jazz class and an adult tap class to choose from. Both classes are beginner-friendly and focus on building coordination, confidence and technique in a positive environment.

We are located at 1575 Clarkson Road North in Mississauga. Yes, we have a free parking lot for easy drop-offs and pick-ups!
